Lots of history here! You can tour the building yourself, or tag along with a very talkative tour guide who might talk a bit too much and never let you see anything. But you'll learn a lot at least!
Good experience friendly guides
Great small museum. Knowledgeable and helpful docents make this a place worth stopping at.
I visited the Old State House this past weekend, and it is worth a stop if you are in town sightseeing. It is one of the few places that is open on Sundays, and the historical interpretation was very well done.
A beautifully restored building which used to be the seat of government in Delaware a few decades ago, as well as a court house much earlier in history. The tour guides have so much to tell you there is much more to see around the town after seeing this building. There is plenty of parking in the streets around the building.
The first floor of the Old State House is the old colonial court. There is a beautiful set of winding staircases on both sides of the building that take you up to the second floor, where the upper and lower legislative assemblies met. On this level, there is a unique portrait of Washington that is worth seeing.
The docent gave a very thorough history of Delaware from colonial times through Delaware's secession from Pennsylvania and statehood, through the ratification of the Constitution (Delaware was the first state to ratify).
