I can't stress this enough, the physicians in this town need to stand up for their patients and demand better, or another option!
Sat in the waiting room for over 6 hours, got little to no answers as to when I would be seen or how long the wait would be just for them to tell me that there was nothing they could do for me.
I grew up in Delaware, have not lived there in many years, but I had a medical condition arise while visiting family there and Kent General Hospital (Bay Health) was my only choice for care. This experience was like visiting Hooterville Hospital on "Green Acres". The quality of communication by the nursing staff was almost unintelligible during my stay. And I don't mean the accents of any non-US born staff with whom I came in contact....Those folks spoke better English than the native born staff members who talked with such bad communication skills I could barely hear or understand them. I wanted to scream every time I heard the word "AX" pronounced by an RN. You've gone to college to become an RN - wasn't communicating and speaking properly with people a requirement. Icing on the cake was having to ask them to remove the IV inserts in my hands - they completely forgot about it as I was being prepared for discharge. I asked a close relative (a retired RN) to remove them, as I trusted her more than the staff. The billing is a mess. After my hospital stay, I received several chargess against my insurance which couldn't be fully explained. In one case, I had a follow up visit with one of the specialists at his office, which is covered in full under my insurance, with a $40 co-pay. The hospital is still charging directly as a hospital service. When I called their office to explain this, I was given a lame answer, indicating this may have been a. charge because the specialist's office is on hospital property. excuse me? You want me to pay for his rent? The rep could not give a full explanation as to the charge and would have to send me a detailed bill. Why don't you send out a detailed bill in the first place to avoid this nonsense? This place is supposedly a non-profit institution, but they have so many (literally) unqualified people running this facility, I'm amazed they can remain open. and by the way
Horrible!!! Much of the staff acted like they didn't know what they were doing and some were just out-right rude. I must admit that I've had bad experiences there in the past but this most recent visit was the worst. I felt disappointed and disgusted with the behavior of staff members. From here on out, I will never go to that hospital for anything! And I will discourage friends and family from going as well.
The quality of healthcare at this hospital is not the best. They don't seem to know what they are doing. Better off going to Christiana Hospital.
Hands down, the worst aspect of living in Dover is that KGH is the only hospital option. I and my family have had to come here for multiple reasons, from radiology to ER, for almost 20 years, and I would be hard pressed to give you even one positive experience. Just this morning, here for a procedure for my wife, and we've been given incorrect information 3 times, sending us to the wrong location. Then we get sent to a waiting area by a staff member who didn't even ask our name. 15 minutes if waiting until I find someone who said they didn't even know we were here.
